Liberty Belle: 'Higher' by Sbtrkt ft. Raury
Following on from his collaboration with Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, London based artist Sbtrkt has put out ‘Higher’ – the third piece from his forthcoming album ‘Wonder Where We Land’.
Musically, Sbtrkt has never been one to overcomplicate things, opting for more of an atmospheric groove than a complex melody, and the recent releases see more of the same – more refined if anything. ‘Higher’ is true to this, differing from the other releases, fittingly, with a lighter, more airy sound.
Where ‘New Dorp. New York’ was a thick soup of bass and reverb, ‘Higher’ is more spacious. High-hat, synth, and other more subtle elements are allowed to augment the vocal track which itself drives the song forward without intrusion.
The overall effect is absorbing. This is a track to lose yourself in, whether commuting or at home, only to emerge looking for more.
‘Wonder Where We Land’ is out on 22nd September.
