Liberty Bell: New Music Monday - Fryars, Walking On Cars, Tanya Tagaq

Cool Like Me - Fryars
Fryars, the solo artist turned Lily Allen collaborator, has released another song from his forthcoming debut album, 'Power'.

Cool Like Me is a wonderfully sophisticated synth-pop track. The slightly tongue in cheek lyrics (You owe it to yourself / You could be cool, cool like me) are layered with vocoders and set amongst house-esc strings and piano, making the whole effect incredibly chic. Think Justice meets Pheonix, that level of chic.

The album, also featuring singles 'The Power' and 'Prettiest Ones Fly Highest', was in part produced by Rodaidh McDonald (The XX, Vampire Weekend, Adele) - making it one of Liberty Belle's most anticipated releases.

Always Be With You - Walking On Cars
Despite selling out arenas in their native Ireland, Walking On Cars are yet to make their mark in the UK. Surprising, really, given their Bastille-gone-angsty sound which is primed for mainstream radio plays.

Their latest single, following on from 'Hand In Hand', is slightly more understated. Although in keeping with the broody pop asthetic, the band opt to keep things a little more sedated with slightly modern take on a ballad. Singer Patrick Sheehy is clearly at the focus, with song circling around the heartfelt line,
'I'll always be with you'

Caribou (Pixies cover) - Tanya Tagaq
Tanya Tagaq defied serious odds in September in winning the Canadian Polaris prize, ahead of music superstars like Drake and Arcade Fire.

'Caribou' is the first track to be taken from her debut album, out in January. The song, a reworking of the 1987 Pixies track, showcases her full range of expression. Beginning light and tuneful, it builds in momentum before cresendoing into a terrifying display of twisted, dark orchestral jabs and screaming - lots of screaming.

Tanya Tagaq has been praised for her fusion of avant garde composition, inuit screaming, and genre defying electronics. Evidently, her full length album will be one of the most interesting of 2015.
